The
Public
Works
Street
Maintenance
Division
manages
and
maintains
approximately
90 miles
of roadway
within
the
City
limits
and
assures
use
of proper
traffic
control
methods,
proper
signage,
flow-lines,
tree
trimming,
drainage,
pothole
repair,
striping,
snowplowing,
and
cindering.
The
Public
Works
Village
Maintenance
District
provides
for
street,
sidewalk,
and
lighting
improvements
within
the
Village.
Properties
within
district
boundaries
that
specifically
benefit
from
the
improvements
pay
an annual
assessment
based
on front
footage.
City
staff
maintains
the
sidewalks,
cement
areas,
benches,
and
curbs;
maintain
the
lighting
systems
and
overhead
signs;
and
provides
maintenance
and
upkeep
of the
planters,
including
trees,
shrubs,
flowers,
weed
control,
and
the
irrigation
system
in the
Village.
The
Public
Works
Waste
Management
Division
maintains,
operates,
and
facilitates
operations
for
solid
waste
disposal
in an
effort
to meet
AB939
(50%
diversion
by the
year
2000)
and
also
in an
effort
to better
serve
the
community.
The
City
currently
contracts
to operate
a CRV(California
Redemption
Value)
Redemption
Center,
conducts
public
information
events,
contracts
out
for
solid
waste,
and
facilitates
the
operation
of a
hazardous
waste
disposal
site.
The
City
maintains
two
public
trash
sites
for
trash
and
recyclables
disposal
to serve
both
residents
and
visitors.
Locations
for
the
trash
sites
are:
Fire
House
#2 (across
from
the
Civic
Center)
and
Garstin
Road
(next
to Big
Bear
Disposal).
In addition,
the
City
does
accept
cardboard
waste
at our
Bartlett
Road
site
(next
to the
Big
Bear
Chamber
of Commerce).
The
Public
Works
Sanitation
Division
services
8,300
properties
providing
for
the
collection,
transportation
to the
Big
Bear
Area
Regional
Wastewater
Authority
(BBARWA)
facility
and
treatment
of wastewater
in the
City. |
