As you know, Southwest Gas is currently working on Big Bear Boulevard (Hwy 18) in the heart of Big Bear. The work and mandated maintenance being conducted is required to continue to provide safe and reliable natural gas service. We understand that construction affects traffic flow among businesses and residences and appreciate your patience as we work to improve our system.
There will be no roadwork from July 1-July 5 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Big Bear Summer Construction Details
Multiple construction projects are ongoing and planned for the summer months to complete the undergrounding work that was started last spring and completely overlay Big Bear Boulevard. These projects will provide much needed updates to our Natural Gas lines, enhanced reliability on all utility services and smoother more aesthetically pleasing main thoroughfare for our residents and visitors. We understand that the number of projects, timeframes and detours can be frustrating and feel like an inconvenience, but all work will help generate improvements that will benefit our community.
Below is a summary of details for the projects to help plan your travel over the next several months.
Work on handicap returns and curb gutter and asphalt work is scheduled to be completed prior to the July 4th Holiday Asphalt repairs will also continue along the “front grade” (18/330) for completion by winter. Culvert maintenance will take place in the fall as it has in previous years.
Full overlay of Big Bear Boulevard handled by Matich Construction is scheduled to begin on August 1st and continue through October. Traffic control will be in effect during the project.
