BIG BEAR LAKE, CA -- The City of Big Bear Lake announced today the appointment of Jim Miller as Director of Building and Planning. Miller will begin his new post July 9. He will serve as the department head for both the Building & Safety and Planning divisions, working closely with the Planning Commission on long-term development goals. His position will be an integral part of the City’s management team. Miller comes to the City from the County of Riverside, where he most recently served as the Director of Building and Safety, managing a staff of 183 people and overseeing a $26 million dollar operating budget.
“Jim’s proven ability to resolve complex issues through community outreach, cross-departmental coordination and competent leadership will undoubtedly benefit the City. We are pleased to have him join our team. He shares the City’s commitment to high-quality public service,” stated City Manager Jeff Mathieu.
Miller possesses over 23 years of progressive management responsibility in both City and County government in relation to planning, building, housing, public works, economic development and code enforcement programs. His past experience includes roles such as Development Services Director for the City of Murrieta and Community Development Director for the City of Pomona. He holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine.
Miller also comes to the City with noteworthy certificates and credentials. He is the Governor’s appointee to the Contractors State License Board, a Certified Building Official and serves as Adjunct Faculty for Riverside Community College.
The City of Big Bear Lake is a four-season resort located in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, approximately 30 miles northeast of San Bernardino.
