Building & Safety Department
The Building and Safety Division administers and enforces State and Federal regulations, local ordinances, and model codes. Staff reviews building plans, specifications, and engineering calculations, and inspects new construction for compliance with life, fire, and seismic safety requirements. The Building and Safety Division is available to the public for consultation concerning prospective projects. PLEASE BE ADVISED that in-person interaction with all City of Big Bear Lake Departments is by scheduled appointment only. During this time, we will conduct city business via email, with very limited exceptions. All hard copy submittals will be quarantined and sanitized for a minimum of three (3) days before being handled and processed.
Plan Submittals: Please email new submittal applications to . Once your application is submitted and processed, we will send you an invoice. You may pay online or mail in a check made out to the City of Big Bear Lake. Please ensure a copy of the invoice is included with the payment. You will be notified when your payment has been received. Only then may you bring hard copy plans to City Hall. These plans must be placed in the bins located at the front entrance. Alternatively, plans may be submitted electronically via email or mailed to: City of Big Bear Lake, Building and Safety Department, P.O. Box 10000 Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Please provide a transmittal sheet with the plan check number, project address, contact information, and the department to which plans are being submitting. Resubmitted plans may be delivered or transmitted following this same process.
Releasing Corrections: Required corrections will be sent to the contact on file via email. When requested by the submitter, hard copy plans will be placed in the pickup bins located at the front entrance of City Hall. In this case, plans will be sanitized by City staff and quarantined for a minimum of three (3) days prior to pick up. We will notify the submitter when these plans may be picked up. Please email or call the appropriate City staff to discuss plan review comments.
Permits: When plans and/or applications have been processed and approved, the submitter will be notified and payment instructions will be provided. Payment may be remitted online, or checks made out to the City of Big Bear Lake may be mailed to the address provided above. Please include a copy of the invoice with each payment. When a payment is received and processed, we will email the approved permit and job card to the contact on file. When necessary, hard copy plans will be returned to the submitter following the processes described above. Thank you for your patience through this difficult time.
