Public Works is comprised of three main divisions:
Street Maintenance
The Public Works Street Maintenance Division manages and maintains approximately 90 miles of roadway within the City limits and assures the use of proper traffic control methods, proper signage, flow-lines, tree trimming, drainage, pothole repair, striping, snowplowing, and cindering.
Sanitation Division
The Public Works Sanitation Division services 8,300 properties providing for the collection, transportation to the Big Bear Area Regional Wastewater Authority (BBARWA) facility, and treatment of wastewater in the City.
The City has developed and implemented a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) pursuant to the State Water Resources Control Board Order 2006-0003, Statewide General Waste Discharge Requirements for Sanitary Sewers Systems. The goal of the SSMP is to minimize the frequency and severity of sanitary sewer overflows. The SSMP describes the management, planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the City's sewer sanitary sewer system.
Parks & Facilities Maintenance
The Parks & Facilities division is responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, limited construction, or repair of City buildings, facilities, landscapes, and parks. Responsible for the Civic Center, City parks (Boulder Bay Park, Rotary Park, and Veteran's Park), Village landscapes, repair construction, maintenance, and public restroom upkeep.
