The City of Big Bear Lake consolidates with the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters Office for all municipal elections. The City Clerk serves as the elections official and the City Clerk's Office is responsible for all candidates' filings, the issuance and acceptance of nomination papers, City measures, and publication of all legal notices as well as campaign and conflict of interest filings required by the Fair Political Practices Commission.

General municipal elections for the City are held on the first Tuesday in November of even-numbered years for the purpose of electing City Council Members or placing special measures and bond issues before the community.

The next general election for the City of Big Bear Lake will be on November 3, 2020, for the purpose of electing two City Council Members from Districts 1 and 5 and will finalize the transition to district-based City Council elections which began in November 2018.

Who's eligible?

To be eligible to run for City Council you must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and a qualified elector of the respective district of the City of Big Bear Lake.

Where do I go for more information and when?

The nomination period for the November 2020 election is July 13, 2020 – August 7, 2020. Nomination papers are issued by and filed with the City Clerk. Candidates must be over the age of 18 and a registered voter in the City of Big Bear Lake, at their current address in their respective district, to run for office. Candidates are nominated by and voted upon by registered voters in their district.
